ChatGPT Health isn't available in Europe. Here's how to connect Apple Health anyway.
If you open ChatGPT in Paris, Berlin, London or Zurich and look for the Health space that connects Apple Health, you won't find it. OpenAI launched ChatGPT Health in January 2026 and left out the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. In July it opened Health to every user in the United States over 18, on every plan. Europe still isn't on the list, and I have found no announcement that it is coming, nor a date.
That doesn't mean ChatGPT can't read your Apple Watch from Europe. It means the built-in route is closed, and another one is open. I built HealthSync and I live in France: everything below was set up and tested from here.
Why ChatGPT Health skips Europe
OpenAI hasn't given a reason. The ones commentators give are the obvious ones: health data is a special category under the GDPR, with strict rules on processing it and on sending it to the United States, and a health assistant could fall under the high-risk rules of the EU AI Act. Whatever the reason, the result for you is the same: no Health space, and no way to sign up for it from here.
"Health isn't available": what the message means
The wording varies: people report ChatGPT saying that Health isn't available for this account, or that it is not available yet in their location. OpenAI's own help page says the same thing more softly: if you don't see Health, it may not be available for your account yet. Behind all of them, one rule. OpenAI offers Health to eligible, signed-in users in the United States, aged 18 or over, on the Free, Go, Plus and Pro plans, on the web and on iOS. And connecting Apple Health takes the iPhone app, even for a US account.
- You're in the EU, the UK or Switzerland. Your account isn't eligible, and nothing on your side changes that: not a reinstall, not a new device, not a paid plan.
- You're in the US and still see it. Update the app: OpenAI names version 1.2026.188 as the minimum. If you are over 18 and it still doesn't appear, ChatGPT may have estimated you're younger; OpenAI's help page explains how to verify your age. And the rollout to every eligible account can take a few weeks.
Either way, the message is about the Health space, not about ChatGPT reading your data. The route below works without it.
What works from Europe today
ChatGPT accepts plugins you add yourself, through Developer mode. A plugin is an MCP server: a service ChatGPT calls while it answers you. HealthSync is one. The app on your iPhone reads Apple Health and syncs your workouts and your daily recovery to it; ChatGPT reads them from there when you ask.
- A paid ChatGPT plan. Developer mode exists on Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu, and it has to stay on for the plugin to keep working.
- Add HealthSync as a plugin with its address,
https://api.gethealthsync.ai/mcp. - Approve from your iPhone. ChatGPT opens a page with a QR code; you scan it, and the app, already signed in with Apple, says yes. No password, no account to create on the web.
The step-by-step guide for ChatGPT has the screenshots for each of these, taken from a French account.
What ChatGPT can read once it's connected
Every workout Apple Health holds, whole: a run arrives with its laps or reps, its heart rate second by second, its pace, power, stride length and ground contact time; a triathlon arrives as its swim, transitions, bike and run. And the daily numbers outside workouts: resting heart rate, heart rate variability, sleep, VO2 max, steps.
That is enough to ask the question the Health space was built for. Here is what it told me five days after a 5K race:
Have I recovered from Sunday's 5K?
healthsync · list_health_metrics hrvSdnnMs · restingHeartRateBpm · 14 days
Mostly. Your heart rate variability was mostly above 80 ms in the last days of September, between 71 and 93, then fell to between 50 and 58 ms from October 2 to 5, the days around the race. It has been back between 65 and 75 ms since the 6th. Resting heart rate tells the same story: 46 and 47 bpm the four days from the race on, 43 and 44 since Thursday. You are not back to your late-September numbers, but nothing says you can't train; if the plan calls for intervals, they can go ahead.
Note what it did: it compared my numbers with my own late September, not with a chart of "normal" values. Apple's heart rate variability is measured differently from Whoop's or Garmin's, and only means something against your own baseline. The tool tells ChatGPT so.
Where your data goes
HealthSync stores what the app syncs on its servers in Paris, under the GDPR. Each assistant you connect gets its own access, which can never change anything in Apple Health, and you can cut it off from the app at any time. What ChatGPT reads to answer you then goes to OpenAI like anything else you type in a conversation: HealthSync decides what it hands over, not what happens to it after.
Syncing is free. Reading your heart rate and more than the last 30 days takes Pro, at €6.99 a month after a 14-day trial.
If you're in the UK or Switzerland
The same applies: ChatGPT Health excludes both, Developer mode doesn't. The steps are identical, and so is the plan you need.
